What is Reiki?

rei·ki  /ˈrākē/

Reiki is a traditional Japanese technique that utilizes hands-on energy applied to the body to promote relaxation and reduce stress, leading to healing.

The word Reiki is derived from the Japanese words “Rei,” meaning “Universal Life,” and “Ki,” meaning “Energy.”

Reiki has been in practice for over 2500 years and was rediscovered in the 20th century by Dr. Mikao Usui. Recently, it has gained more recognition and acceptance within the medical community.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner seeks to transmit Universal Life Energy to the client through the laying of hands or slightly above the body. The practitioner moves around the table utilizing specific hand placements.

Clients often report experiencing deep relaxation, emotional calmness, warmth, and subtle vibrations.

Reiki can be added to a 60, 75, or 90-minute massage session, or it can be practiced alone for 60 minutes. Reiki-only sessions are charged based on time. There is no additional fee to add Reiki to a massage session.

Reiki does not require either the practitioner or the recipient to follow a particular belief system or any belief system at all, as it works regardless of faith. All that is necessary is to be open to receiving Reiki.

I practice traditional Usui Reiki and do not work with the Chakra system. If you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to ask.
